On
Saturday, April 5, 2008, Kiwanis International is having Kiwanis One
Day. This is when Kiwanis Clubs from around the world will be
doing service projects. The same day, all over the world, in
different ways, the K-family will be conducting service.
In Florida, for 2008, I am
asking your club to sponsor “Kiwanis Day at the Ballpark.” In youth
league parks all over, there are kids that no one cheers for.
Would your clubs go cheer for kids that need cheering? Maybe your
club could help raise money for the local league by having a pancake
breakfast or a bar-b-q on that day. Maybe you could buy ball gloves
and bats for kids who cannot afford them. I am not telling you
what to do because you know your communities much better than I. On
April 5th, 2008, go to the ball park.
As I travel Florida, I have
found that it is important to be flexible in our thinking. I am
aware that some communities are on Spring Break on April 5th.
The ball parks will be empty. Do not give up. Make April 12th
or any other day, the day.
By the way, if you are in
the Tampa Bay area, make plans to come to “Kiwanis Day with the
Rays.” On Sunday, June 1st, you will get to see a great
baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays.
You will get to join hundreds of Kiwanis members at the game and you
will get to wager as to if the Kiwanis Governor (that’s me) can
throw the first pitch without bouncing it to the plate. Contact Lu
