MEMBERSHIP SEASON!
The Super Bowl is
over. Basketball is being played, but the competition has not really
heated up. For you northern transplants, hockey is really only
beginning. What season is it for Kiwanis?
This is
membership growth season. Many clubs are working diligently to
increase membership in their clubs. Just yesterday, I heard about
the Wildwood Club which has 19 members. They hosted a special guest
day where 17 guests were present. I was the speaker at the Freeport
Club where a club that was chartered in August had a Special Guest
Day and 10 guests attended. Freeport currently has 25 members on
the roster. The Homestead-South Dade Clubs reports the induction of
4 new female members. It is membership season!
Most of you have
heard my message and know I want you to concentrate on membership.
But what I find many are not hearing is that I want you to
work smarter, not harder. Membership Guest Days work!
The Freeport club decided to have their guest day last week. 40% of
the people attending their meeting were guests. They will grow their
membership 10-20% in ONE WEEK. Special Membership Programs like 100
in 100 focus the attention on membership. These programs should a
finite time period. The game clock should expire. Then, the
membership push is finished until next season. This is
important because then you can move on to service season.
I try not to use
my own club as an example too often, but we have a membership season
once a year in August. This year we have split our season to
accomplish a push for female membership growth. The rest of the year
we dedicate to service. Brooksville may not be the best club in
Florida, but we are consistently in the top 10. Why? It is because
most of the year we got out and serve. At the same time, we grow.
Why not
work hard during your membership season, whenever it is? Then you
can have a long season of service.
