DISTRICT CONVENTION IN
JACKSONVILLE
WOW! I started
this journey of Florida Kiwanis leadership in Jacksonville and I
will finish it there. On August 29, 2004, I announced my candidacy
for Florida Kiwanis District Treasurer with lots of my friends in
straw hats giving out campaign brochures and greeting convention
delegates as they entered the Sunday Morning breakfast. It was so
much fun and I was humbled by the support I was given that morning.
It was a great memory. I look forward to returning to Jacksonville.
Though I officially finish being governor on September 30th,
I will be retired on August 23rd. Jacksonville will
always be a special convention venue for me.
As I reflect on
that, I remember other memories……I remember Sharon at her first
convention when I left a meal function early. While standing at the
door, watched her win my 50/50. I remember going Bubba Gump’s in
Daytona and sitting with new friends from Port Charlotte. I remember
hearing Binh Rybacki make an impassioned presentation about her
orphanage in Vietnam. I remember bidding on a sailboat at the Caring
Corner. I remember hearing a long, boring speech or two. But, mostly
I remember watching enthusiastic Kiwanis members talk about the
things their clubs are doing.
I hope you will
join us at the Florida District Convention in Jacksonville on August
21-24. Register online at
http://www.floridakiwanis.com/convention. It is easy and
convenient. The hotel room deadline is July 20th. Do not
be late.
You will have a
chance to learn more about Kiwanis. You will get a chance to see old
friends and make new ones. You will have a chance to be entertained
and motivated. You will have a chance to exchange successful ideas.
I promise you
will make a memory.
