CELEBRATE KIWANIS AND BEING KIWANIANS

During the holiday season last month, Bob and I had the opportunity to visit Disney World with three of our grandchildren, Faith, Noah and Bella. That’s always a special treat for us to be with our grandchildren and to be able to visit the “happiest place on earth”. I was excited and intrigued as we were approaching our time share at Disney. Everywhere we looked there was the word CELEBRATE. The fleet of buses had colorful Mickey Mouse shaped balloons painted on the side with huge letters spelling CELEBRATE. When we entered the lobby of our hotel, there were signs telling us to CELEBRATE. The next morning as we approached the gates of the Magic Kingdom, again there were more signs telling us to CELEBRATE. When we walked onto Main Street, we were all given pins to wear that said “I’m Celebrating”! Shortly after we entered the park, the CELEBRATE Parade began with larger than life colored floats with our favorite Disney characters; Chip and Dale, Donald and Daisy, and of course Mickey and Minnie. Faith and I joined in the parade and did the conga to the “Celebrate You” song. I thought to myself, how perfect is this. Disney agrees with me about the importance to CELEBRATE!

Last August, at our District Convention, I told you that this was going to be a year of celebration. We were going to CELEBRATE KIWANIS AND BEING KIWANIANS! I encouraged you to take time and think about and all reasons why we should celebrate and to make this a positive year of celebration and fun.

In a few weeks, our “Year of Celebration” intensifies as our Zone Conferences and Governor’s visits begin. Mark your calendar to attend one or more of the five events. Check out the Florida District website for all you need to know about the celebrations. We have exceptional workshops planned to be delivered by the most outstanding Committee Chairs in all of Kiwanis. There will be a resource display area for you to get materials and ideas on how to make your club the “Best Show in Town”. You will have time to enjoy being with other K family members. And, I am so excited that I will be delivering my Governor’s message to you. It will be a time of fun, fellowship and celebration!

On another note, Happy New Year to each of you! I hope your holidays have been filled with wonderful memories of the “joy of giving” and love shared with family and friends.

Have you made your New Year’s resolutions? January is traditionally the month of creating anew, of setting goals, of making lists of resolutions, of reflecting on the past and looking forward to the year ahead.

There’s a lot to be said for having great expectations. Dreams, hopes and goals are a vital part of our lives. We dream, hope, and set goals all the time. For some of us, it is a very conscious effort. A little portion of each day is devoted to working towards our goals. Success and achievement seem to happen regularly to people who focus on goals. I know that one of your goals will be to spread the word about Kiwanis and to invite others to join our organization so they may reap the benefits of volunteerism. My dream, hope, and goal is that one day Kiwanis will be the premier organization of adult and youth volunteers that is changing the world and “Making a Difference”.

Have a jubilant January!
