Share your love!

It’s February.  It’s the month of love. When I was a classroom teacher, I would teach that February was the month of love.  The students and I would decorate the classroom and participate in activities which would show our love of our fellow man, special people, and our country.

During the month, we would celebrate the birthday of Abraham Lincoln, the President who demonstrated the meaning of love of our fellowmen.  We would also celebrate the birthday of George Washington, the “Father of our Country”
. Washington demonstrated the love of country.

On Valentine’s Day, we would celebrate the love of those special people in our lives.  We would send cards and give tokens of our affection and love to let them know how special and important they are.

If I were teaching today, I would be celebrating you, my fellow Kiwanians.  As Kiwanians, you are constantly demonstrating love.  Just think of how many ways you show your love of fellowman, of country, and of special people.

This year, you can show your love of fellowman by reaching out to the people of Haiti.  My heart aches as I think about the devastation brought about by the January earthquake and the effects it has had on so many.  The pictures, broadcasts on television and radio, evoke indescribable emotions. I’m sure you feel the same.  The blazing sun during the day and the blackness of the night continue to torment
the survivors and will for months ahead.  Families have been torn apart. Children are suffering.   As Kiwanians, we “Serve the Children of the World”.  Let us demonstrate our love of fellowman, and especially the children, as we reach out to help in the relief effort.  I have received emails from many clubs and Kiwanians telling of their endeavors to help. Our Kiwanis clubs are autonomous and are responding to the need in various ways. Some have been holding fundraisers and making monetary donations to agencies; others are collecting food, baby items and medical supplies. I encourage every Kiwanian and every Kiwanis club to get involved.  We will continue to collect baby formula at the remaining Zone Conferences.

Please keep everyone involved in this disastrous event in Haiti in your prayers. Please Make a Difference. Kiwanians are love.
