As you know, October 1 begins a new Kiwanis year.  A new year is a time of fresh starts and resolutions, when we look ahead to the promise of a year before us and make plans for the next 12 months and beyond. Last May, while training the 2009-2010 class of Lt. Governors, we ended their training by singing Seasons of Love. Look at the words and think about what you will do this year during our “Seasons of Love” of Kiwanis.  What plans will you make as our new year begins?

My vision for the upcoming year is that we will get excited about Kiwanis and have fun being a Kiwanian. I want us “Celebrate What’s Great” about Kiwanis and continue
“Making a Difference”.

I hope you are familiar with the Starfish Story.  It’s about an old man walking down the beach picking up starfish and throwing them back into the ocean so they wouldn’t perish. A youth following behind asked the old man why he was bothering as there were so many starfish and how could such a simple effort make a difference.  The old man bent down, picked up another, and replied, "It makes a difference to this one” and returned it to the ocean.

This year I am encouraging you to continue “Making a Difference” by becoming a Kiwanis STAR.
     Strive to live the Objects of Kiwanis.
     Tell everyone about Kiwanis.
     Actively support Service Leadership Programs and  
                                         Young Child Priority One Projects.
     Recruit and retain quality members!

It’s going to be an exciting, memorable year. I thank you and look forward to this opportunity to serve you.  Let the celebration begin.
